THERE’S NO RESPECT IN FEAR BUT THERE’S FEAR IN RESPECT.

THERE’S NO RESPECT IN FEAR BUT THERE’S FEAR IN RESPECT.

Once there was a kingdom far, far away. The king of that Kingdom was a notorious dictator. No one was above him. He was the highest after gods. He could get anyone killed anytime he feels violated. If he saw someone he felt was better than him in one way or another, he would just order his guards to execute that person.
One day, he met an old man in the woods where he went hunting. He went down to ask the old man what he was doing in the woods alone.
The old man on seeing the king burst;

Old man: You notorious king! you will forever be hated by generations. get away from me.
The king was furious and said,

King: How dare you speak ill of me, your king?

Old man: You are not my king. Said the old man. How can you be my king when i have no respect for you?

King: I am respected throughout the kingdom. Said the king. Everyone kneels and bow down before me on the sight of me. They respect me and as their king.

Old man: They don’t respect you, they only fear you! That’s why they bow down before you and keep their faces away from your conniving glance.

King: What’s the difference? Asked the king. I’ve sense their respect for me.

Old man: Have you sensed their love for you even for a bit? Stop deceiving yourself. Supposed a monster jumps out now and threaten to end your life when you look at its face. Will you respect it or be afraid of it?

King: I would be very afraid of it and keeps my head down not to look at his fearsome face.

Old man: That’s exactly what happens to your subject. They don’t want to see your fearsome face just like you wouldn’t look at the monster’s face.

King: But i only wanted to be respected! I wanted to be loved by everyone of my subjects.

Old man: You can’t force anyone to love you or respect you. You must earn it. Not with violence and bloodshed. You want to win their hearts first and to do that, you must give your heart to them. If they respected you they wouldn’t hide their faces away. They would always raise their heads and you would be able to see their love for you on their faces, in their smiles on seeing you.

King: That’s all i want. To be loved and respected. Kind sir, how can i achieve this? Please tell me.

Old man: You do the opposite of what you’ve been doing all these years. Make up for your misdeeds.

King: I’ll do just that. Thank you very much kind sir.

Old man: Remember one thing, there’s no respect in fear, but there’s fear in respect. When they respect you, they’ll be afraid to do you wrong. That’s all, my king.

The king happily rode back to his palace with a great smile on his face. Ever since he returned from the woods, he was a changed man. The kingdom started changing for the better and soon everyone lived happily ever after.
