Pride goes before a downfall

Once upon a time, there was a girl in a far away village who was so beautiful that her beauty couldn’t be compared to any goddess.

She was admired by all for her beauty for she had a fair-smooth skin, a nice-perfectly arrangement of teeth and, she was tall with long legs.

Her parents were well-known in the village for their kindness and humility and, everyone expected their daughter to follow their footsteps but, she was the complete opposite of them.

She would look down on the poor and insult
and reject any man that comes to ask for her hand in marriage saying, “I’m not made for people like you, I can only get married to a prince and become the princess I was born to be”.

So, it happened that a handsome prince was seeking for a wife who is beautiful, well-cultured and above all, humble. He had heard so many news of the beauty of a certain girl in a certain village and, he couldn’t wait to see her.

So, after seeking permission from his father, he journeyed to the land to meet this beauty, disguised as a beggar.

When he got to the village he asked for directions and finally came to the girl’s house.

He was welcomed warmly by her parents and, he waited to see the girl since was not at home.

Later that day, when she came back, he decide that the rumours were indeed true for she was so beautiful. He greeted her, very eager to speak with her but, she didn’t regard him. So, he concluded that maybe she was in a bad mood.

The next day he tried to speak with her, but she still ignored him.

On the third day, when he tried to talked to her, she rudely told him to stop making attempt to talk to her saying, “I’m not made for beggars but for princes”.

He said nothing to her but smile saying to himself, ” if only she knew”.

He made no effort to talk to her again but rather decided to take another girl who wasn’t as beautiful as the proud girl for his wife.

On the other hand, the proud girl was growing feelings for the prince but pride couldn’t let her to apologize back to her so-called beggar.

The prince went back to the village and told his father that he’s seen a girl he’d marry and, the king decided that they go see her right away.

So, dressed like the prince he was, he went back together with his father and guards and, maidens carrying jewelries for his bride.

When the proud girl so her so-called beggar, dressed like a prince, she was surprised to find out that he really was a prince, and became bitter when she discovered he was getting married to another girl.

She wished she could turn back the hands of time but, it was to late.

Nobody wanted to be her friend, no prince came to seek for her hands in marriage.

Finally she got married to the poorest man In the world and her beauty continued to wane and sometimes, she would hear people whisper, “she was a beautiful girl” and she would know they were talking about her.

And she would say, “Yes I was beautiful but, my pride led to my downfall
